School Counselors

Our school counselors play an important role in helping BIS students look at their talents, strengths, abilities and interests. They work in a professional partnership with teachers and parents to provide and educational system where students can realize their true potential.  Our counselors continually focus their efforts on improving academic achievement for all students by reducing barriers to learning and providing support necessary so that they may achieve at the highest level.

Peer Mediator Program

We are pleased to announce the addition of our new 5th grade BIS Peer Mediators, that were selected by their peers as being positive leaders in our school. The students completed training with Mrs. Bankert, in the area of conflict resolution, negotiation and mediation. The BIS student population self-refers themselves to the peer Mediators to help resolve conflicts that they may be having with other students. All referrals are confidential and the goal of the mediation is to reach a resolution that both students can agree to. A special thank you to our fabulous group of 6th grade Peer Mediators that will be transitioning to SDMS – thank you for keeping the Peace at BIS the last two years.
